Dear Parents/Guardians
Swimming Carnival 2021
Thank you to all the parents, guardians and students who attended the school swimming carnival 2021. The weather and participation from students was excellent. Thank you to Mr Sanders and the HPE team for their organisation of the carnival and to the Senior Sports Leaders who assisted with the novelty events. The carnival provides a fun day of participation for all swimming abilities.
Please see below important dates for Term 1.
International Women's Day Breakfast
Last week a number of our Student Leaders attended International Women’s Day Breakfasts in both GeorgeTown and Launceston. Soroptimist GeorgeTown organised the GeorgeTown breakfast and Tamar Valley Rotary Sunrise invited the girls to Hotel Grand Chancellor. The day was a wonderful opportunity for our female Student Leaders to connect with the community and listen to inspiring speeches. The theme of International Women’s Day was Choose To Challenge. It urges us to call out gender bias and inequality to create a more inclusive world.
Reminder

It was great to be invited to attend the 50 GEMS of George Town Municipality Launch today. The GEMs is a place- based multimedia project focused on sharing the compelling stories and special ‘gems’ of the region.
Grace, in Year 11, represented Port Dalrymple students involved in creating the Young GEMs films in 2020 along with Student Leadership Board students who are keen to participate in creating more Young GEMs in 2021.
It was very special for our students to meet The Honourable Peter Gutwein MP, Premier of Tasmania and Mr Scott Harris, Chief Executive of Beacon Foundation, at the Launch. We look forward to sharing the Young GEM videos with you as they are released and encourage you to access the other GEMs on the Future Impact Group Facebook page.
Thanks is extended to Bell Bay Aluminium and in-kind support from George Town Council and the George Town Future Impact Group who have made the Young GEMs project possible.

Little Athletics State Individual Championships
Keeley competed at the Little Athletics State Individual Championships in Hobart last Weekend and was very successful. She competed in four Events over two days and won a Bronze Medal in U11 Javelin, 5th in Shotput, 5th in Discus and 10th in Hurdles with two Personal Best performances in Javelin and Hurdles.
The Year 2 students have practiced on the side of the pool, where to put their arms before getting in the water to float, glide, swim and bucket tag.

Throughout this term we have had the YMCA Youth Leaders Kate and Kem help with Daily PE and Basketball training. Daily PE training is every Thursday and we have been learning new games ready to teach in our Daily PE rotations. New games have included:
- Steal the Bacon
- Paddle Ball
- Donkey
- Noodle Tag
- Protect in the Pin
- Nuclear Reaction
We do the lessons during Thursday lunchtimes, all of the games we learn from the YMCA leaders we incorporate into our Daily PE rotations.
During basketball training on Friday's at lunctime, we have been practising our skills and drills:
- Throwing
- Catching
- Dribbling
- Teamwork
- Shooting
Kate and Kem have taught us a lot of skills about basketball. Soon we will be playing a tournament against South Georgetown and Star of the Sea - the roster starts next Friday 19th March.
On behalf of the Port Dalrymple School community we would like to thank South32 and the George Town Council for providing the financial resource that has enabled the school to purchase laptop computers for students.
The initiative will ensure students, primarily in Years 3-9, will have a device for learning which they can take home. It will enable students to stay connected to their learning, to the wider school community and provide opportunities for teachers to support and extend students learning throughout the year.
Families of students in Years 3-10 who do not have a suitable device for learning can ring the general office to loan a school laptop. The general office will complete a loan form for the student and then the device can be collected at any time from Monday – Friday during school hours 9.00am-3.00pm. Please ensure you follow social distancing procedures when you enter the school administration area.
