5-8 Sector Report

Year 5-8 Sector Report

The Middle Years Sector Team would like to congratulate our students on how well they have settled back into the routine of school life ready for a busy Term 4. It has been fantastic to see our students following our DoE Values and engaged in their Term 4 learning programs.

JCP Visit

On Tuesday the 12th of October our Grade 7/8 students were fortunate enough to attend a full day seminar with Will Smith and the team from JCP. Throughout the day student's patriciate in a number of activities designed to challenge their way of thinking. Important take aways from the presentation include:

  • Identifying the top 5 people you spend the most time with and ensuring that those are the people who are going to bring the best out of you.
  • Understanding influence and how the influence of others affect us in everyday life.
  • Understanding the concept of ‘what is the story I am telling myself?’ about a situation and considering if that is your perception or reality. Are you believing your moles?
  • The power of choice and making sure students make the right choice for them not just what their mates do.
  • Two rules of communication: is it positive? Were you present? If a conversation doesn’t answer questions to these two with ‘yes’ then it shouldn’t be spoken about.

6-7 Transition

On Tuesday the 19th of October our transition program for students moving into Grade 7 for 2022 was in full swing again. Students engaged in the hospitality area using our state of the art facilities to make a toasted sandwich and milk shake. In addition to this, students completed a STEM challenge which focused on teamwork, collaboration, communication and resilience. We are looking forward to our full day orientation coming up on Tuesday 9th November where students will learn what it is like to follow a high school timetable and navigate their way around the school.
